My Little Corner of The World

Three years ago, I filmed the wildlife in and around my yard. This entire piece was filmed within a span of 15 minutes. It includes footage of Hummingbirds (“Smaller than a hickory nut”) Pileated Woodpecker, Red tailed hawk, deer and a beautiful pair of Northern Flickers. In the meadow that was once behind my home lived Lynx, wild turkey, rabbit, a variety of turtles, and many species of birds. The sound of frogs in the pond that was there for 30 years or more used to fill the summer nights with the beautiful song of nature. The pond was often visited by the Great Blue Heron, deer, migrating ducks and Canadian geese. The pond has now been bulldozed and the hillside blasted away to make room for a gigantic, blacktopped parking lot. For decades, the black crows nested in the large trees on the other side of the meadow on the ridge top. Though the gigantic trees they called home were bulldozed several weeks ago, they refuse to leave. In the evening, when the construction crew leaves, the crows land on the unmanned heavy earth moving equipment. It appears as if they are studying the machines trying to figure out how to dismantle them. It’s really sad. Pray that this doesn’t happen in your own back yard in Franklin Tennessee. ~ Kittra
